BLACK DIAMOND Gridlock Magnetron

black diamond gridlock magnetron

  1. Magnetron Technology uses two magnetic arms in the gate and a steel insert in the carabiner’s keylock nose to create an ultra-secure, self-clearing and redundant locking mechanism that can be easily used with either hand.
  2. It’s only an extra second, but it is more effort than the same gridlock carabiner with the screwgate which manipulates quicker and then is locked with the screw mechanism.
  3. With that said, the point is the extra security of not being able to forget to lock a screw gate and in this regard the magnetron system wins over the traditional screwgate.
  4. So this particular carabiner offers the highest level of safety and security, but also mandates the most steps to manipulate.
  5. I still use it every climbing session and haven’t had a single problem.
  6. I never feel like the magnets are going to fail or hang up .
  7. I like it, but I don’t love it simply because of the extra manipulation, but still use it regularly because of the extra security benefits.
  8. It auto locks when the gate closes which can be frustrating since it requires some hand strength to open back up.
  9. Not an issue unless you’re at the end of a long day of climbing.
  10. Getting the harness hard point into the small portion of the carabiner is an extra step but that’s why you buy a carabiner like this one.
  11. My problem rests with the gate and the magnets that make it work; they easily get debris stuck inside the cute little locking jaws causing it to jam up.
  12. I no longer trust the gate mechanism to function properly outdoors.
  13. If you are setting up to belay for a competition it would be GREAT.
  14. If your climbing and switching between climbing and be laying the harness lock section is cumbersome.
  15. Also, the gate open space is too narrow to clip belay equipment,ex.
  16. Magnets are fantastic and simplify the process of getting clipped in securely.
  17. A little more complicated to clip on and off harness than a regular one but it works great.

  11. Plus, the clip is easily reversible for whichever side is most convenient.

  18. What’s in the Box VL-02 Vulcan Mini pocket knife with straight edge blade, glass-reinforced nylon handle, and reversible pocket clip.
  19. It is the buyer’s responsibility to check local laws before purchasing.
  20. It’s fluid in its use and the arc lock really feels secure and is easy to disengage.
  21. I lost my knife for two days in a leaf pile outside and it got rained on, but when I found it again, not even a hint of rust.
  22. Its size is nice, and though if you have really large hands there is a hot spot on the clip, I don’t have any issues with it at all.
  23. I really like the way the knife looks as well, it’s what caught my eye about it to begin with, and doesn’t look too tactical.
  24. The handle also feels good, not too hard, and with enough grip.
  25. The blade shape lends itself to pretty much every cutting task I need.
  26. The size is also good, big enough for everything I need but small enough to not be an issue anywhere I take it which is important because, once again, it is my EDC knife.
  27. The blade wasn’t as sharp as I thought it would be when I first got it but the edge was passable.
  28. Also the clip has a protruding edge at the bottom and when it is in my pocket it will scratch and scrape everything I brush up against including my car and walls.
  29. I also miss assisted opening, though I can live without it for this knife.
  30. I’ve heard complaints about the lack of a safety lock, but without assisted opening, I don’t mind it’s absence and I haven’t had it open in pocket yet.
  31. So I kept looking and looking and found a lot of cool looking knives on Pinterest believe it or not this SOG knife caught my eye.
  32. I was mainly drawn to it for its cool factor look and I didn’t want a high price tag on a knife just yet.
  33. Btw, you can search for tactical gear, survival knives and guns on Pinterest and it will come up with tons of ideas for EDC or survival.)

I am going to have to say, that I am pleased with my purchase.

  34. Some people complain about the grip being cheap, but I want to say I don’t have a problem with it.
  35. Some also complain about the no spring assist when opening, but I have no problem using the thumb assist or the finger lever to get it started.
  36. Some have complained about the clip, only time will tell when I start to EDC this knife.
  37. If you clip your knife in inside your front pocket with the clip on the outside you will constantly keep getting your shirt or jacket on the clip if it overhangs below the clip.
  38. I have had a SOG knife before and liked the axis lock system very much, so I was itching to go back from a liner lock.
  39. Well, the axis lock system is just as good as I remember, and the knife is quite sharp to boot!
  40. My poor arm is missing a lot of hair just from a few effortless tries.
  41. We’ll see how the steel holds up over time, but I have high hopes for this knife.
  42. Otherwise, it’s very comfortable in the hand and is a good looking knife.
  43. My previous two EDC knives were assisted open which I do miss, but that’s alright – the quality of this knife otherwise makes up for that in my eyes.
  44. If you’re looking for a smaller EDC blade, pick up this SOG.
  45. This is the most useful personal carry with a zero-depth clip (blade is even with and does not protrude from pocket edge).
  46. The grip is not aggressively rough, but remains tactile in mud and water.
  47. It articulates smoothly with practice, out of the box, and the clip is ambidextrous.
  48. SOG carries extra clips with Lifetime Warranty, in silver or black.
  49. The hard-wearing finish of the black clip does wear to expose bright metal beneath.
  50. It is not too big, though, to carry in one’s Jeans pocket, which I do all the time.
  51. It has a clip at the edge of the handle, so it carries deep in the pocket without having to fear loosing it accidentally.
  52. The blade is exceptionally sharp and the shape is very useful and, yes, beautiful.
  53. The opening mechanism is of the so called “assisted” style, meaning that you just open the blade a few degrees and the mechanism takes the blade the rest of the way.
  54. This works real well and the knife locks in the open position very securely.
  55. There are complaints that the blade would open accidentally while in the pants’ pocket.
  56. Didn’t happen to me yet, but I can clearly see the possible improvement of fitting this knife out with a safety mechanism that prevents it from opening inadvertently, akin to the provision SOG put into their Twitch knives.
  57. The handle is Zytel, which is certainly not the most exclusive material, but it does the job well and provides a safe, non-slipping grip.
  58. The knife is very well balanced and looks very, hmm, manly.
  59. This was one of the first “higher quality” flippers I purchased.
  60. It took me awhile to warm up to it but now its my current favorite.
  61. The flipper action definitely needs a wrist flick to open.
  62. It will also open with a writs flick by just sliding the blade lick back.
  63. The blade was ultra sharp and the scales have a nice aggressive texture without being too hardly.
  64. The clip does cause a minor hot spot but all things considered, a very comfortable feel.
  65. If you can get over the price and the somewhat binded blade swing, I’m sure you will love it too.
  66. The knife itself is very sturdy when you are bearing down on something and holds a pretty good edge.
  67. Feels very comfortable in my hand (I’m on the border of men’s large or extra large gloves.) ARC lock feels very secure.
  68. Did I mention they make the aesthetics of the blade ugly?<
  69. Been using it as my main EDC most of that time and have not had a single issue.
